Since the french article about the blobfish held all the popularity records with as much as 950 clicks (it’s a lot considering the little traffic, I figured out I’d translate it for my fellow english readers, if I have any.

The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a deep water fish found near the coasts of Australia and Tasmania. While not being commonly seen due to his hardly reached habitat, the blobfish gained internet fame thanks to this atrocious portrait of one of them.

If being the ugliest thing I ever seen wasn’t enough, the blobfish also turns out to be a lazy-assed piece of jello. Instead of simply swimming like every hard-working little fish, the blobfish prefers to float around. In fact, his gelatinous mass is slightly less dense than the water at this depth, thus making the blobfish to float above the sea floor without any signifiant effort.

Since the blobfish just floats around and doesn’t have the muscular mass to allow him to pursue a prey, this lazy fish just eats whatever edible crap floats by his mouth.
