More photos from this week and beyond. I’m thinking about buying a hard drive just to back them up.

So I’m planning to build a ballista…

Those of you who truly know me know how much I love stuff that throws stuff away. Everyone remembers the spud gun, the crossbow, the airsoft rifle and all the trouble related to each of these things. Some people just like to dream about huge versions of these things… and some others like to make them real. I am part of them.

I really like the idea of a giant trebuchet but I found it a bit complicated to store in the already small garage. It has been done quite often before, too. So I decided to make a ballista. Basically this is a large crossbow but it uses twisted rope instead of a bow to provide the energy necessary to produce the “aaah” and the “oooh”.

I want to make it small enough to fit on the trailer yet big enough to be awesome and shoot explosives. Yes, I said explosives, like explosive bolts… but you didn’t read that.

If you want to share tips (especially concerning the trigger system), I’m interested!

PS: I’m planning to start working on it next summer.

I’m not kidding there, I’m fucking tired of this crap.

Notpron: A nearly impossible riddle

I found this on Digg yesterday and it hooked me on since then. At a first glance, it looks like a point and click game, until you find out it’s much more complicated than that. You must try everything to get to the next step. Sometimes it’s a trip to Google, other times you have to play with the image in Photoshop to reveal hidden coded messages. I’m only at the fifth picture and I already dealed with morse, ASCII, Alt, source code, Google search and anagrams. Really, really tough crap right there. Only 167 people finished the game’s 139 levels. My guess is that they turned insane halfway there.

Want to have a try?
