I obey the pure breed
Comments (0) August 26, 2008I found this site in a Cracked article and I’m sorta addicted to it. I wish I could find some posters for the Pug. Meanwhile I’ll enjoy my free (plus shipping) stickers of Chairman Meow.

The promised pics
Comments (0) July 9, 2008I’m sorry, I’m a lazy-ass blogger. Here are the pictures of Paco. I’m not responsible if the cuteness makes your face melt, enjoy.

Meet the lyrebird!
Comments (0) May 25, 2008Lyrebirds are a species of ground-dwelling birds that finds its habitat in Australia, just like the previously covered blobfish. Even with their charming set of tail feathers, the lyrebirds could look like ordinary birds, even boring on the edge. However this little bugger has talents that could make most parrots jealous.
The lyrebird is able to mimic other birds perfectly thanks to its complex syrinx. So what you might say. Well the lyrebird’s impersonation talents won’t merely stop to imitating other volatiles. It is able to imitate almost any sound it hears. It is not uncommon to have some of these birds to mimic gun shots, car alarms, dogs, crying babies and the like.
An anecdote tells that a lyrebird called “James” became friend with a woman and would often mimic a rock-crusher, a hyrdaulic ram and even car horns [source]
In this short footage you can see the lyrebird imitating other birds but also car alarms, chainsaws and camera shutters.

Meet the blobfish…
Comments (1) May 13, 2008Since the french article about the blobfish held all the popularity records with as much as 950 clicks (it’s a lot considering the little traffic, I figured out I’d translate it for my fellow english readers, if I have any.
The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a deep water fish found near the coasts of Australia and Tasmania. While not being commonly seen due to his hardly reached habitat, the blobfish gained internet fame thanks to this atrocious portrait of one of them.

If being the ugliest thing I ever seen wasn’t enough, the blobfish also turns out to be a lazy-assed piece of jello. Instead of simply swimming like every hard-working little fish, the blobfish prefers to float around. In fact, his gelatinous mass is slightly less dense than the water at this depth, thus making the blobfish to float above the sea floor without any signifiant effort.
Since the blobfish just floats around and doesn’t have the muscular mass to allow him to pursue a prey, this lazy fish just eats whatever edible crap floats by his mouth.
There is unfortunately very little information about this wonder of nature, but here are some links to compensate:
